When it came to color my mother was singularly focused on blue; we lived in a blue environment: walls, carpet, dishes, car, clothes, almost everything was blue. It seemed that in her mind there was only one good color and that
was blue. In order to embrace her memory I wanted to make pieces that are primarily blue just as her world was primarily blue. She was an astronomer so I included the night sky in these pieces and especially the moon and Venus which seemed particularly important to her toward the end of her life.
I started with this simple premise, to see my ideas through a blue filter. The pieces in this section represent ideas from several bodies of my work but now seen through my mother’s blue eyes.
