The pieces in the Arriving series are about crossing the border between Mexico and the United States, about cultures meeting and mixing and what immigrants bring to a new country as well as what they find when they arrive.

Where the US and Mexico meet, between El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, the water of the Rio Grande is the dividing line. Here water is the line one crosses to arrive in the United States. In “Arriving” some of the boats are drenched in color that is bleached away as the boats cross the border. Other boats have holes in the bottom where the color, symbolic of culture leaks out. Some boats cross into a snow storm as they leave a warm colorful place and arrive in a cold world of minimal color.
